Ioannis “Johnny” Moutzouris is a Greek composer, music producer and multi-instrumentalist based in the United Kingdom.
In 2012 Johnny graduated with a degree in BA Jazz from Middlesex University where he studied jazz guitar and composition with Stuart Hall, Nikki Iles and Rob Batchelor amongst others. As of 2017 he successfully completed a postgraduate degree in Composition for Screen at the University of Edinburgh under the guidance of renowned film composer Yati Durant. His performance throughout the academic year led to him being awarded the top of the class honour and it also enabled him to participate in the Regard Croisé masterclass at the International Film Festival d’Aubagne.
During a span of ten years Johnny has been an active performer in the British jazz scene forming the Johnny Moutzouris quintet and also performing with artists such as the Stuart Hall Big Band, Alex Heath and La Pompe Manouche. Moreover, he has made an impact on the electronic music scene under the artist name Joz Moz. His most recent collaboration with the Liquid Drops label boss mSdoS on the "Your Summer Haze EP" reached the top 20 of the Beatport electronic music charts.
It was during the past five years that his attention shifted from being a session musician and producer to composing music for film, animation and video games. Consequently, Johnny has broadened his compositional technique by working on films and animations such as Internally Non Human, From Green Lines to Green Lane, Nailbiter and Lucky Land to name a few. The score for the neo-noir short film Lucky Land earned him a nomination at STC 2017 for the Peer Raben Award. His compositional style can be best described as a unique blend of electronic soundscapes, intricate jazz harmonies and multi-layered percussion.
